DO NOT BE FRIGHTENED
by Mathan Jebaraj

Greeting our brothers and sisters in Christ! I hope you are doing great. We the NMJ Brothers wish you a very wonderful God-blessed New Year 2005.

We are happy to share with you that there are some new additions in the Western Classical Piano Solo-s section of the www.nmjbrothers.com website and an all-time favorite Wedding instrumental
“Aasirvathiyum Kartharae” under the “Tamil Christian Piano Solo-s” title. We have very rewarding videos in the “Video” page with two heart-warming messages from Rev. Daniel Israel. Please check them out and let us know what else you would like to see in our website.

At this time, I have to share with you that I felt this probably was the strangest New Year we might have ventured into, as the end of December was quite disturbing with the Tsunami news. I automatically started turning the pages of the Bible toward “Revelation” (Remember Revelation 11:13?), but I was too frightened to read about the end of the days.
So I sought the comfort of the Gospels but eventually started reading Luke 21, which is so relevant to the present day, and the following verses left me meditating for a long time:

Luke 21

(Verse 9)
When you hear of wars and revolutions, DO NOT BE FRIGHTENED. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”
(Verse 11)
There will be great EARTHQUAKES, famines and pestilences in various places, and FEARFUL EVENTS AND GREAT SIGNS FROM HEAVEN.
(Verse 25)
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the ROARING AND TOSSING OF THE SEA.
(Verse 36)
“Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Even though the verses strongly remind us of today’s shocks (especially verse 25 that talks of tidal waves), the Chapter also insists that we be on our guard and not be deceived. God will help us stand firm, and He will give us such good words and wisdom. He promises that not a single hair from our heads will be lost. Jesus reminds us that we need to be on our guard and pray.

The most important verse that I kept thinking of was this:

(Verse 13) “This will be your chance to tell the Good News.”

Let’s not be frightened; let us try not to worry even though it is a distressing time. Let us be practical Christians and help the Tsunami victims in whatever way we could, financially or in person. And also assist those Christians who are telling the good news to the survivors. How many Churches, Christians and non-Christians whom we know are directly involved in feeding, clothing and praying for the survivors? And how many are involved in funerals and sanitizing and cleaning. How many mothers are cooking food for the orphaned children? We need to be supporting them and doing our very best. There are millions of practical Christians including you, working on this mission that God has given us. Let us work practically as Christians, and at the same time, be on our guard when we watch these signs and pray. And most important let’s never forget to take this chance to spread the Word. Please pray. Let us all pray. Prayer only gives us the right answers and the comfort that is so needed for millions across the globe.

Let us sunset the fears of December in our minds and work towards growing closer to the souls to be reached across the world and closer to our Lord, right from the dawn of this New Year. This is a fresh start. This is a brand new year. We learned yet again, how precious a life is. Let us not be frightened. Let us not waste any more time. Let us spread God’s good word.

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.”
(Hebrews 13:5-6)

Please close your eyes for a moment and take time to pray.

May God bless you abundantly and keep you and your family safe and healthy in this New Year!
